We hold LeCool in such regard that it makes our toes curl with delight when they give us a good review and this one made us feel especially toasty. We're deadly chuffed with this exhibition as it completes a lovely circle for Barry and ourselves and just looks beautiful.
The new space we've opened, specially built and finished in time for the show to hold the volume of Barry's work, has given us an opportunity to try some bolder moves and we hope to be announcing a very exciting addition to Barry McCall's show in the next couple of days.
Barry is hosting two artists talks over the next two Tuesday nights, an evening on 'Fashion and Celebrity' with all invited and the second night, for practising photographers, 'An Evening with Barry McCall'.
In the meantime, here's a few images of the most magic night for us...
Why be caught out in a shower looking soggy and ill-prepared when you could be defying the drizzle by wielding one of these very fine umbrellas!
These come from Chicago-based designers Materious. Have a look at their other clever ideas here.
We're absolutely tickled pink to be hosting Pho20graphy, a 20 year retrospective of photographer Barry McCall's work in our Copper House Gallery next month, from the 15th of May to the 10th of June.
This exhibition has a special resonance for us as Barry started his brilliant career in our studio and there was a delicious irony in our asking him for 'a job' earlier this year. Thankfully, he gave us the gig and we can't wait to show you a set of fabulous images hanging on our walls soon.
Barry has allowed us to edition many of his works and proceeds from the sale of Barry McCall prints, available from our Gallery, will go to the ISPCC, the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
The good news is that Barry will be hosting two artists evenings, the first of which will be 'Barry McCall on Fashion and Celebrity' on Tuesday May 22nd 6.30 - 8.30pm and all are welcome. Barry will give a guided tour of the exhibition and explain the pleasure (and pain) of his practise.
Barry will also host an evening, Barry McCall on Pho20graphy, for practising photographers on May 29th, 6.30 - 8.30pm, where he'll be delighted to discuss his work and engage in a technical Q&A session with his peers. Please RSVP .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to reserve your place.
This morning was just wonderful for us as we came in to be greeted by this review from Kate at LeCool.
To say we got emotional and feel extremely grateful would be a wee understatement...
Well, we could only laugh out loud when we saw this photograph!
We just couldn't believe the serendipidity of this image of a stage set when set against our 10th scale mannequins from three posts back.
A weird case of life imitating art only in reverse. These super photographs and cut outs were conceived, photographed & made by Ros Kavanagh. We produced the figures as Lambda digital C-type prints which we mounted to black extruded PVC for Ros to skilfully finish and give acting lessons to before sending them out on stage.
Speaking of stages, it's a great show if you're looking for something to go to with beautiful production from the lovely folk at PanPan Theatre!
We do like a good egg here in Fire, chocolate-y or chicken-y, we love em all. Here's a not at all disturbing little ditty, sung in praise of the humble fresh egg (via I Love Egg, naturally). Enjoy and have a happy Easter!
We're gearing up for the opening tomorrow evening of The Exile's Return, an exhibition of paintings and prints by Kevin McSherry. Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan T.D., will open the exhibition here in The Copper House Gallery.
The works in this exhibition deal with the artist's recurrent theme of cultural disconnection. He relates his narrative-laden paintings, sometimes with humour, other times more darkly, but all his works play with the viewers imagination and wit, stretching both, with his intentionally absurd compositions.
The show runs until 14th April. Admission is free and all are welcome. The opening party starts at 6pm. Hope to see you all there!
We've been busy making hundreds of these little acrylic models and are delighted that they'll be popping up and being used all over Ireland over the coming months. They're 1:10 scale and we'll be using them with photographers, artist and students to help plan and design their exhibitions and graduate shows. (Think PhotoIreland 2012). The little men and women also star in our exhibition design masterclasses and facilitate perfect visualisation of how your work will look on the wall. Every college student coming into us for their photographic and fine art prints gets a set together with a maquette of their exhibition space. You're more than welcome to a set too whether you're planning a show, making prints or just plain curious. Just call down to us in The Copper House and say hi - the only snag is, we promise to tell you about all we're up to so be warned!
